North YMCA Dragons Swim Team

  • Coach RL and his team are skilled at developing a passion for the sport of swimming for kids, and teaching the skills and techniques to be champions and high-level athletes beyond the high school level.

TRAIN HARD. TRAIN SMART. TRAIN LIKE A DRAGON.

The YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley Swim Team – The Dragons – mixes great instruction and competitive opportunity with the YMCA emphasis on Core Values and leadership skills.

Our coaches focus on improving swim technique, building endurance, and increasing swim speed, while having fun! In addition to promoting healthy living, self-esteem, and confidence, the YMCA IMV Dragons build friendships that will last a lifetime. As a coaching staff we help swimmers set personal goals, then work hard to help them accomplish those goals.

Meet our Coaches

Coach RL

Coach RL has been coaching the North Dragons Swim Team for the last year. During his time he has been able to drive the team to create new opportunities for those in and out of the pool. Coach RL had 11 swimmers go to the Iowa YMCA State meet and 6 swimmers to the Iowa YMCA Regional meet. Over the summer 2022 the Dragons were able to win their first conference meet. The Dragons were able to break a 4 years win streak from another team in the conference.

Coach RL has the goal to double the amount of swimmers that go to the State and Regional meets 2022/2023 Fall/Winter season. The Dragons are focused on training hard to improve their strokes and Coach RL and Coach Matt are excited to see what the Dragons go to accomplish this coming season!

Coach Matt

Coach Matt is a new coach to the Dragons for the 2022/2023 Fall/Winter season. He was a swimmer on the Dragons prior to becoming a coach. Coach Matt is excited to give everything that he knows back to the team that made him into the swimmer he is now. Coach Matt has been teaching swim lessons for the last two years at the North Family YMCA, and brings a new outlook of swimming to the team. The Dragons are excited to welcome Coach Matt to the team!
