YMCA Gymnastics
Class Descriptions
Parent-Tot Gymnastics: Age: 18-36 months Length: 30 minutes
- Parent participation is required for this class.
This class utilizes obstacle courses to introduce children to basic gymnastics skills (rolls, swinging, balancing, jumping, etc.), and focuses on hand-eye coordination, large and small motor skills and social development.
Preschool Gymnastics: Age: 3-4 years old Length: 45 minutes
Our preschool class utilizes the same obstacle courses as the parent-tot class but allows children to have more independence in learning skills and different skill progressions (cartwheels, handstands, etc.).
Beginner Gymnastics: Age 5-12 years old Length: 60 minutes
This entry level class is designed to teach the fundamentals of the four gymnastics events; Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Excercise. At each of the events, gymnasts will develop strength, muscle development and confident while using proper body positions to demonstrate a variety of skills.
Intermediate Gymnastics: 5-12 years old Length 90 minutes
The intermediate gymnastics class takes the skills mastered at the beginner level and works on continuing to progress gymnasts into learning and mastering more difficult skills. Gymnasts will continue to work on strength and muscle development throughout the four gymnastics events.
Advanced Gymnastics: 5-12 years old Length 90 minutes
In the advanced gymnastics class, gymnasts will continue to progress on the skills they mastered at the intermediate level. Additionally, gymnasts will have the opportunity to try out for our competitive gymnastics team in the spring if given approval by their instructor.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WE MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 3 STUDENTS REGISTERED FOR A CLASS TO KEEP THE CLASS OPEN.
TUMBLING ONLY
Tumbling: Ages 5-12 years old Length: 45 minutes
Our tumbling class is for children of all skill levels to come and practice their skills right where they’re at. Whether it’s their first day on the floor or they’ve been practicing for some time, children will be led through a series of stations to help them succeed and reach their goals.

YMCA NinjaZONE
Lil’ Ninja
Similar to our preschool gymnastics class, our lil’ ninja class utilizes an obstacle course and our popular ninja rig to begin introducing children to basic skills such as rolls, cartwheels, balance and coordination, etc. The ninja’s will also work on strength and muscle development to help them better succeed through the courses.
Junior Ninja (previously Ninja White)
Our junior ninja class, previously known as ninja white, uses focus and concentration to continue progressing on the skills worked on in the lil’ ninja class. The ninja’s continue to use the obstacle courses and the ninja rig to master a variety of skills and advance at their own pace.
Don’t forget to purchase a ninja uniform (shirt and headband)! They can be purchased online and picked up at the Bettendorf YMCA or YMCA Sports Center for $30.
Make sure to order and pick up your
Ninja Zone uniform too!
Uniforms can be picked up at the Bettendorf YMCA.

Where are the class held?
Our gymnastics and ninja classes are held at the YMCA Sports Center at 2222 Middle Road in Bettendorf, IA. There is an onsite parking lot as well as additional parking across the street.
Where do I go once I get there?
Our gym is located in the back of the YMCA Sports Center. Once you enter the building, please follow the signs that will help lead you to our space.
What do I do when I arrive?
When you arrive at the gym, please check in at the green table and give us your child’s name. Your child may put their things in a cubby located in our viewing area of leave them with their guardian.
Once checked in, your child may sit and wait with their guardian or have a seat at a designated space in the gym while they wait for their instructor and their class to start. There will be no running around or playing on equipment before class begins. \
Do I stay and watch or do I need to leave?
We encourage you to stay and watch your child however it is not required. We ask that if you do stay, please refrain from speaking to your child during class and allow our instructors to teach.
There are various seating areas available for you to sit and watch your child. Adults are not allowed to enter the gym unless they are participating in a parent-tot class. Aditionally, only those participating in a class are allowed in the gym. We cannot allow siblings, friends, etc. to run around in the gym area.
How do I know who my child’s teacher is?
There will be a “who’s my teacher” posted at our front table so your child will know who their instructor is. It is our goal to have consistency with our coaching staff from week to week so that your child can feel comfortable when coming to class.
What does my child need to wear?
Leotards are recommend for girls but the only requirement is that your child wears something comfortable and easy to move around in (sweatpants, shorts, t-shirt, etc.).
What do I do if my child is nervous and doesn’t want to participate without me?
We understand that it can take children some time to get comfortable with their class. Please communicate with their instructor or the director if this is the case for your child and we will come up with a plan to help them have a positive experience. (having you sit with them during class, sit and watch the class, etc.)
Can you inspire kids? Come join our team!
The YMCA focuses on the purpose of helping more kids and families live healthier, happier lives. We’re always looking for positive leaders with high energy and great attitudes to teach our recreational gymnastics, competitive gymnastics and ninja classes.
