Programs/Groups

Novice

$55/month 

This group will mainly focus on Freestyle and Backstroke, along with working toward legal turns and building confidence in starts. 

Move up Requirements:

Coach Evaluate Technique in Freestyle and Backstroke

Developmental

$55/month

This group will work on introducing new strokes such as Breaststroke and Butterfly, along with streamline and underwater work. 

Move up Requirements:

Compete: 50 Free, Back, Breast and Fly (25’s if 8 & Under)

Intermediate

$55/month

This group focuses on Individual Medley events and transitions along with overall technique work.

Move up Requirements:

Compete: 100 Free, Back, Breast, and IM

Bronze

$55/month

This group will become more competitive, working on legal strokes and dropping time over the season. Competing in larger events outside of the 50s.

To Move Up:

Compete: 200 IM and 500 Free

Silver

$60/month

This group’s main focus is working toward 12 and under state cuts, by including more yards and more advanced technique work.

To Move Up:

Must Have 3 State Times

Gold

$65/month

This group’s main focus is working toward 11-12 State Times, by including more yards and upping the intensity of the practice with larger main sets.

To Move Up:

11-12 Age State Cuts (or 4 or More 10 & Under Cuts)

Platinum

$75/month

This group is working toward Senior State Cuts, by adding more yards and including dryland to improve strength.

Senior

This group is an older group for 13+ that do not have state cuts.

Elite

This is the top group working toward Sectional Cuts or higher.

Summer Practice Schedule

Monday/Wednesday/Friday

Silver: 5:00 pm – 6:15pm

Gold: Gold 5:00 – 6:30pm

Senior: 5:00 – 6:45pm

Platinum/Elite: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Tuesday/Thursday

Novice/Developmental: 5:00 pm – 5:45 pm

Intermediate: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Bronze: 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Platinum/Elite: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm


Meet the Coaches

Nathan Spencer
Nathan will serve as Lead Coach for the summer season, providing leadership and stability as we move forward. He grew up swimming in the local area, competing for Bettendorf High School and holds the backstroke portion of the school varsity record for the 200 medley relay. He was a 2 time team captain and the 2016 MVP. He swam for Lane Four Aquatics Club and was the 2015 Long Course High Point winner. He was a Sectional, Futures and Junior National Qualifier. He received a scholarship to swim Division 1 at the University of South Dakota and was part of the relay that held the 800 Free Relay record at the school for 4 years. He has 4 years of coaching experience with the Piranhas Swim Club and is currently the North Scott YMCA Aquatics Director.
Kaylynn Witt
Kaylynn Witt has been hired as an Assistant Coach and will be a great addition to our team. She was a decorated swimmer in high school and is a parent of 4 current River Otters. She brings a strong understanding of youth development, team culture, and family values to the coaching staff. Welcome Kaylynn!
Katie Burke
Katie Burke, one of our extraordinary Assistant Coaches, has graciously agreed to stay on and coach in May and June, helping provide continuity for our swimmers this summer. We look forward to seeing Katie on the pool deck again this summer!
Amy Thompson
Amy Thompson will also serve as an Assistant Coach this season. Amy was a swimmer in high school, competed for 4 years at the Division 1 level on the University of Iowa Women’s Rowing Team, and coached swimming at Pleasant Valley High School for 8 years. She has coached a wide range of swimmers, from those just learning to swim to over a dozen state champions on both the boys and girls teams. Amy also coached for a year with the Pleasant Valley Stingrays Swim Club. In addition to coaching, she has 15 years of experience as a teacher.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which group to join?

Sign up for a try out with the head coach and they will assign the group.

How do I know when my child is ready to move groups?

Each group has requirements to move up, once your child has hit those requirements the coach will decide to move them to the next group either right away or at the start of the next season.

How do I sign up for a swim meet?

Once you have decided on a swim meet you want to participate in, fill out the linked form with your child’s name, dates wanting to attend, and events you want to sign up for.

How do I know what events to sign up for?

Most events are based on the age group they are in, but if you are ever in doubt just ask the head coach. 

How many meets should I attend each season?

The championship meets at the end of the season require a 3 meet minimum for either YMCA or USA Swimming.
